2017

In 2017, events have so far included

  • A visit to Tate Britain to see Paul Nash's exhibition
  • A visit to the Vanessa Bell Exhibition at the Dulwich Art Gallery with Colchester Art Society
  • Tour & Tea at Layer Marney Tower
  • Makers Bazaar at the Minories
  • Visit to Columbine Hall, a moated manor house near Stowmarket with Colchester Civic Society
  • Visit to Holt, Norfolk, for "Benton End and Friends" exhibition with Colchester Art Society
  • Visit to Battle Abbey and nearby Hastings with the Friends of Colchester Museums
  • An invitation from the Colchester Civic Society to join their Cruise from the Hythe to Brightlingsea on the Brightlingsea Ferry.
  • The Roman River Music Festival.
  • A joint guided tour with the Colchester Civic Society with a ranger to explore the newly acquired wetland habitat at Fingringhoe Wick.
  • Annual evening visit to the Theatre Royal, Norwich, for the Glyndebourne Touring Opera's production of Rossini's The Barber of Seville.
  • The Friends of the Minories 41st AGM, at the Minories at 2pm, followed by an illustrated talk by Deborah Lambert, art historian and lecturer, about Catherine the Great, Wedgwood and the Green Frog service.
  • Christmas Market at the Minories with a Friends stall from 10am to 4pm

2016

In 2016, events included

  • Joint visit with Colchester Art Society to HOLT, Norfolk to the Benton End & Friends exhibition.
  • A visit to the Royal Academy to rediscover the works of some of the most important painters of the early 20th century.
  • Tour & Tea at Coggeshall Abbey, an extraordinary medieval building founded in 1140 by King Stephen.
  • Visit with Colchester Civic Society to Mere House in Kent, a grade II listed Georgian House with magnificent gardens.
  • Spring Fair at the Minories.
  • AGM and 40th Anniversary of the foundation of the Friends of the Minories.
  • Visit to the Dulwich Picture Gallery to see a rare exhibition devoted to one of the finest artists of the Dutch Golden Age, Adriaen van de Velde (1636-1672).
  • Annual visit to Norwich for an opera production by the Glyndebourne Touring Opera.
  • Christmas Fair,"Makers Market", at the Minories.

2015

In 2015, events included

  • The visit to Audley End, Saffron Walden was unfortunately cancelled due to lack of support. Thank you to David Gallifant for his detailed planning nonetheless. Perhaps the visit was too late in the year for our members.
  • A visit, with Colchester Civic Society, to East Ruston Gardens, Norfolk.
  • A visit, with Colchester Civic Society, to Tymperleys in Colchester, once home to William Gilberd, scientist and physician to Elizabeth I.
  • Tour & Tea at the newly refurbished Munnings Art Museum
  • May Market at the Minories 'Nothing New @ The Minories'.
  • Visit, with Colchester Art Society, to Strawberry Hill and Ham House.
  • Another Glyndebourne Opera evening at The Theatre Royal, Norwich
  • A talk by Deborah Lambert on The Country House in the 18th century at our AGM
  • Christmas Fair at the Minories.

2014

In 2014, events included

  • Christmas Art and Design Fair, with Friends seasonal gifts stall.
  • 38th AGM at the Minories, with buffet lunch and talk by Jeremy Greenwood, art historian and writer, about Paul Nash, artist and designer.
  • Visit by coach to Glyndebourne Touring Opera's production of Verdi’s “La Traviata” at Theatre Royal, Norwich
  • Visit to the Sainsbury Centre, Norwich to see exhibition ‘Masterpieces: Art & East Anglia’.
  • Tour & Tea: Tour of the Agnes Denes exhibition at firstsite followed by tea at the Minories
  • Easter Fair at the Minories: Friends gift and bric-ŕ-brac stall
  • Visit by coach to Kenwood House and gardens

2013

In 2013, events included

  • Publication of our COOKBOOK “Simply the Best” in November resulting in excellent sales
  • 37th AGM – Lunch and talk by Mark Bills, Director of Gainsborough’s House, about Dickens and the Artists.
  • Christmas Art and Design Fair
  • Glyndebourne Touring Opera's performance of Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore at the Theatre Royal in Norwich
  • A visit to Standen in Sussex
  • A visit to the Royal Academy for the Manet Exhibition.
  • A tour of Firstsite exhibition ‘Nigel Henderson and Eduardo Paolozzi: Hammer Prints Ltd 1954-1975’  followed by tea and cakes at the Minories Cafe.
